East China Normal University (ECNU) is recognized as one of Shanghai’s top public research universities under the patronage of the Ministry of Education, and is included in China’s national education projects, “Project 211” and “Project 985”. In 2017, ECNU was ranked as Class A and selected as one of the first 42 participating higher education institutions in the “Double First-Class” Project (world-class universities and first-class disciplines).

The School of Design of East China Normal University was established in September 2004. The School of Design now has four majors: Visual Communication, Product Design, Environmental Design and Public Art. There are 55 staff members and 11 foreign teachers. With the basic educational concept of humanity design, and based on the “1+1+1” training mode reform for creative design talents, “Curriculum Teaching Reform + Internationalization of School Running + Construction of Dual Creative Platform for College Students Based on Project Practice”, the School aims to cultivate high-end design talents with international and future development vision, who are qualified in both comprehensive and professional levels. To ensure the quality of talent training and promote the further development of the School of Design, the School is now open to recruiting all kinds of outstanding talents at home and abroad.

The School has first-class experimental facilities, independent libraries and professional laboratories. The Design Center and Technology Center has 11 professional studios and product model workshops, rapid prototyping machine rooms, screen printing, packaging and printing, ceramic technology, photographic greenhouse, photographic darkroom, animation motion capture system, building model workshop, 3D printing workshop and other professional laboratories. The Fashion Center has ready-made clothing production workshop, plate-making workshop, professional runway, etc.

In the past fifteen years since the founding of the School, the teachers have edited and published nearly 100 professional textbooks, many of which are national planning textbooks. The students have won dozens of professional design awards at home and abroad, including the German Red Dot Award for Product Design, IF Award, the International One Minute Award, the National Art Exhibition Design Gold Award, and a total of more than 200 design patents. The students’ works have been selected for several top international exhibitions, including Venice Biennale, Milan Triennial and Saint Etienne Triennial of Design. We have held student exhibitions in New York, Rome and Turin. The School actively organizes and participates in joint research projects of international colleges and universities, and regularly hosts a series of international academic forums and annual meetings, represented by the International Annual Academic Conference on Urban and Rural Regeneration Design in China. Teachers and students have jointly completed a series of major design projects at home and abroad, including the theme pavilion of the World Expo, the Urban Footprint Pavilion, the renovation design of the Chinese Art Palace, the Shanghai Estuary Science and Technology Museum, the planning and design of the Shanghai East Bund, the Shanghai National Music Industry Base, the Avilles of Spain and the renovation of the old urban areas of Lyon of France.

Job Qualifications

Applicants must have a doctoral degree, with strong research capability and academic achievements. For more details, please refer to “Interim Measures for the Recruitment and Management of Full-Time Scientific Researcher Faculty at ECNU”.

Job Requirements

Within 2 years, employees should 1) obtain a project approved by The National Social Science Fund of China (including Arts category); 2) publish at least one core journal (CSSCI, SSCI, CSCI, SCI, etc.) article.

Remuneration Package

An employment contract of 2 years. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience based on the standards of ECNU. We also provide necessary support in terms of working and research conditions as well as team building. Other allowances and complimentary benefits will be driven by competitiveness and individual performance.
