 Students Sharing

As a first year student at the East China Normal University (ECNU), I can say my first semester has been quite fulfilling. The curriculum is very diverse, including theory, research, discussions, and hands-on projects, which encouraged me to think critically and creatively. The faculty was also very helpful and offered a lot of guidance for our projects, from the main topic to selecting methods and to the refinement of the final look. I gained new experience with both physical mediums and digital softwares, which expanded my vision for my design projects.

The university also organized field trips for various museums and art exhibitions, some in Shanghai and some in Hangzhou. I learned about the history of China, the local history of Shanghai, the contemporary art scene, and many more during these trips.

Outside of academia, the ECNU campus is a beautiful place with a lot of trees and flowers, and it always gives me a sense of tranquility. The canteens here serve a variety of Chinese and international dishes at a rather affordable price, which is very convenient for students that wish to dine on campus. I also have to mention the campus cats, all of whom are full of personality and whimsy, and everytime I see them I am enamoured with their antics.

All in all, my experience with ECNU has been wonderful, and I look forward to the next three years I will be spending here.

I applied for the Environmental Design degree English taught program at ECNU, and from the first day, I felt welcomed into a supportive and inspiring environment. The professors are incredibly helpful, making the learning experience engaging and fulfilling.

This program allows me to explore both the artistic and technical sides of design, offering diverse perspectives on architecture and the art industry. Although I am not fluent in Chinese, I never feel left behind, as the university provides English-taught courses and bilingual practical subjects, along with Chinese language lessons that help with communication.

Living in the dormitory, I enjoy a vibrant student life with various extracurricular activities such as yoga, painting, and volunteering. The international community here has broadened my cultural understanding, while ECNU’s events, like International Day, and field trips to museums and art exhibitions have deepened my appreciation for architecture, design field and Chinese heritage.
